Seminal congestion (English) Conji or Konji (Nigerian English)

In the Nigerian Pidgin English, conji is a shorthand version of seminal ‘congestion.’ It is derived from ‘congeal’ or ‘congestion,’ making it a linguistic borrowing from the concept of ‘seminal congestion.’

Conji is a Nigerian term used in loose conversations which  humorously describes the discomfort or frustration associated with unrelieved sexual tension or arousal. If there is a prolonged period of sexual inactivity, one’s sex drive is at its peak, leading to more concentration of seminal fluids in the body.

By using ‘conji,’ a potentially awkward topic can be discussed in a way that feels lighthearted and less confrontational, highlighting the Nigerian knack for turning serious topics into something more approachable.

Just like seminal congestion refers to a medical condition where semen accumulates in the reproductive tract, conji has also become a Nigerian slang that describes excess semen in men which is known as seminal ‘congestion.’
