Overtime OR Over time (See more…)

The confusion between ‘overtime’ and ‘over time’ often stems from their similar sounds  and related meanings. However, the key distinction lies in the usage.

‘Overtime’ refers to extra hours worked beyond regular working hours, or a sports period that extends beyond the regular time.

On the other hand, ‘over time’ describes a gradual process, over a period of time, or as time passes.

Despite their distinct meanings, the similarity in spelling and sound can lead to interchangeable usage, potentially altering the intended meaning.

Being mindful of the context can help clarify which phrase is most suitable.
