‘Look sharp’ is an idiom which means ‘ordering somebody to hurry.’ For instance, one could say:
“Look sharp, the Managing Director wants to see you.”
This sentence means that one should hurry or be quick and see the Managing Director. The sentence does not suggest that one should be smartly dressed before seeing the Managing Director.
But the Nigerian version of the idiom emphasizes physical appearance with regard to wearing smart clothes, looking stylish or mental cleverness. In international communication, this does not guarantee mutual understanding.
