Beef (about somebody or something) / (English) Beef (Nigerian English)

‘Beef (about somebody or something)’ means a complaint, grievance or problem with someone or something.

In the Nigerian parlance, ‘beef’ has become the abridged form of the phrasal verb ‘beef (about somebody or something),’ while retaining the core meaning.

‘Beef’ is an informal way of saying that somebody has a problem with another person, or that somebody complains a lot about somebody or something. ‘Beef’ has no connection with meat in this context.

Both the English and Nigerian expressions convey the idea of conflict, disagreement or rivalry; a sense of tension or animosity.
