Pack it in (English) / Park well (Nigerian English)

‘Pack it in’ is a British English expression which means that one should stop behaving badly or stop what they are doing; a call to abandon a task, activity or endeavour.

The Nigerian English ‘park well’ carries a comparable meaning. The phrase which is a coinage used in loose conversations, deploys the metaphor of parking a car to convey the idea of stopping an activity, often due to a situation being unproductive or futile. It is an informal way to advise somebody to discontinue an action.

The similarity in the two phrases, despite their differing wording, lies in their shared meaning   -   the idea of cessation.

In essence, both phrases serve as a directive to desist from doing something. The underlying message is one of termination or abandonment. The convergence in meaning highlights the shared human experience of knowing when to stop or move on.
